North Cariboo Centre, keeping Quesnel' s animal shelter fully operational is more critical than ever. These improvements followed best practices in animal welfare and the
Code of Practice for Canadian Kennel Operations established by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.

Unfinished Room Renovation

This project saw the beginning of a room renovation at the Nazko Valley Community Centre. A space was needed to host activities and events for the local community.
Funds from the Quesnel Community Foundation were used to complete the slab floor that was necessary before moving on to additional renovations. The next steps will include closing in and insulating the space.
This is a project that has sat for 20 years, but is now well on its way to being a functional community gathering space!

Early Education Through Books

Each month Dolly Parton's Imagination Library mails a high quality, age-appropriate book to all registered children, addressed to them personally, at no cost to the childs family. Countless parents have shared how excited their child is when their new book arrives each month. Many groups and individuals work hard behind the scenes to make that special moment possible for each child. The local library provides the infrastructure of the core program including managing the secure central database for the Book Order System. The Arts Council incurs the cost of the program's administrative expenses, coordinates the monthly mailings, and works with partners to promote the program to organizations thatwork with eligible families.
Funds from the Quesnel Community Foundation have offset the cost of sending out the books to all registered participants this year.

Pit Wall Replacement Phase 2

This year the pit wall replacement project was completed. Phase 1 was finished in 2024 and Phase 2 was completed in Fall 2025. The project replaced the aging wooden pit wall that had been rebuilt twice and was in need of some sort of permanent replacement. Pre-cast concrete was chosen to create a permanent safety barrier between the track and the pits/spectator area. The improved safety measures enhance the usability of the track and enable a broader hosting of carting events.

Richfield Courthouse Program Revitalization

The Richfield Courthouse in Barkerville has been closed since the COVID-19 pandemic began, depriving visitors of a valuable educational experience. Initially, the closure was due to health requirements. It was later extended due to financial constraints as Barkerville had to reduce its living history interpretation staff. Now that Barkerville's interpretive team has adapted, they can begin reintroducing select programs, but doing so is often outside of Barkerville's current available budget. This project aimed to revitalize the Richfield Courthouse program in two key ways by revamping the courthouse re-enactment with current information and expanding the offering to include a walking tour along the Cariboo Waggon Road. To execute this project, Barkerville's team needed to construct and purchase new costumes and props and research and develop updated scripts with Indigenous consultation, and produce updated marketing material. By breathing new life into this historical program, Barkerville can provide visitors with an enriched educational experience.

After installation of these removable railings safety was enhanced and also provided the added benefits of guidance onto the risers and providing back support for a more enjoyable member experience.
